In developing The Edward, we started with a superb central location, then engaged architects and consultants with experience in retirement living. Most importantly, we talked with our prospective residents, listening to their preferences and advice.

Food & Beverage Manager / Executive Chef,
John Maclean

John Maclean’s professional culinary career began 30 years ago, working primarily for Fairmont Hotels in Canada and the US. He spent 20 years working in some of the most well-known and prestigious hotels with four-diamond and five-star accreditations.

He competed in several culinary competitions, including national competitions with the American Culinary Federation. John has been published in various magazines and newspapers including The New York Times, and has been featured on numerous television programs.

John is passionate about empowering his team by leading with a collaborative environment and hands-on approach. He is happiest at work when connecting with residents and guests, which makes him a perfect fit for The Edward. John’s distinctive menus always revolve around the use of fresh, local and seasonal ingredients prepared in new and interesting ways. It is important to John that our seafood is 100% OceanWise approved, thus sustainably sourced. John loves partnering with farmers in the area and supports local as much as possible. He also likes to switch things up by offering new menus regularly, as well as daily features. You will also find John regularly hosting cooking demos in The Studio kitchen. With paired wine and a seasonal flair, these are always a welcome treat.

Kennedy Lee

Kennedy is an energetic leader and hospitality professional with over 20 years of experience in various five-star hotels including the Fairmont Palliser, Sheraton Suites Eau Claire and The Hyatt Regency. Throughout his hospitality career, Kennedy has displayed a great passion for exceptional guest experiences and service excellence. Kennedy holds a Level 1 and 2 Wine and Spirit Education Trust (WSET) Certificate and has curated an impressive wine selection for The Edward that is sure to impress any wine enthusiast.

Kennedy possesses a passion for customer service and genuinely looks for creative ways to meet the needs of others. The residents always comment on his gracious, kind and gentle approach to meeting their requests and individual preferences. Kennedy is always here to help celebrate any special occasion, by providing first-class service and hospitality to residents and their guests.

Sous Chef / Pastry Chef,
Theophile (Theo) Midez

Theo’s cooking journey started over 15 years ago in a culinary school in a little village in the heart of France. Since then, he has learned the excellence of French cuisine and specializes in beautifully created and unique desserts. Theo has been trained by some of the best Chefs in the world while working in Michelin star restaurants such as Le Taillevent in Paris and Hotel Martinez in Cannes. During that time, he competed in “Championnat de France des Desserts”.

Theo is eager to discover new cultures and moved to Canada eight years ago. He fell in love with the country and has decided to stay and start a family here. Theo brings an unmistakable sense of sophistication to The Edward and our residents look forward to ending their fine dining experience with one of his unique dessert creations.

Program Curator,
Brittany Hazel

Brittany began her career 12 years ago at a local high-end retirement residence, as the Dining Room Coordinator. Her passion for working with seniors inspired her to pursue a career in nursing. Upon graduation, Brittany worked for a Calgary-based homecare company, where her bright and charismatic personality shone through as she provided exceptional nursing services. After receiving a promotion to a leadership role,

Brittany began consulting for the company and oversaw the health and wellness of clients, all while establishing meaningful relationships and ensuring the best possible care was delivered.

As Program Curator at The Edward, Brittany has designed a fun, innovative, and engaging activity plan for our residents. She is thrilled to have the opportunity to collaborate with cSPACE to bring the multi-generational and artistic vision of The Edward to life. Brittany is very dedicated to enriching the lives of our residents. She provides an all-encompassing activity program - filled with art, music, superb entertainment, fitness, meditation, and themed celebrations. Brittany’s primary focus is to create a curated calendar, specifically designed around our resident’s passions, hobbies, and interests. She is eager to listen to our resident’s requests and to try new things.

Outside of work, Brittany is a singer-songwriter, currently recording her first album set to be released this year. Brittany is excited to share her musical gifts with residents by performing on occasion and hosting fireside jam sessions. To contact Brittany, email, or call 403.232.5165.

Building Services Manager,
Corey Petr

Corey grew up in Calgary and enjoys being near the Rocky Mountains, spending many weekends snowboarding, mountain biking, hiking, and camping.

He brings to The Edward a breadth of knowledge and experience with his background as a Master Electrician. With his estimating, project managing, and customer service skills, he is the perfect leader to keep The Edward and its residents safe. Our residents like to call him MacGyver, as he can fix anything.

Corey loves being part of a team where everyone works together to achieve the same goals. The team at The Edward all go above and beyond to provide residents with exceptional service, which aligns with Corey’s core values.
